While the investment for the reconstruction of the Shirokë-Zogaj-Skie road is coming to an end, the customs authorities and the border police of Albania and Montenegro have intensified contacts for the implementation of the agreement that foresees the opening of the common one-stop border crossing point
In the meeting held on the ground the day before between the representatives of the two countries, the focus was on determining the location of the customs point and completing the technical elements necessary for its operation as soon as possible.
Exactly where during the period of monism until the beginning of 1990 there is an important point in this area. Already very soon within this summer it is expected that the newest border point between Albania and Montenegro will be opened, making possible the reconnection of the separated parts of this three Albanians.
The intention of the parties is for this border point to be in operation this summer season.
The reconstruction of the Shirokë-Zogaj road and the imminent opening of the Zogaj-Skje Joint Border Point are expected to bring not only the facilitation of cross-border movement, but also new opportunities for the economic, commercial and tourist development of the area.
The project is considered an important step for strengthening the cooperation between Albania and Montenegro, as well as for increasing the tourist potential along the Shkodra lake shore.
