The Governmental Commission for Missing Persons has announced that during the excavations carried out in the village of Jabukë e Vogël, in the Municipality of Zubin Potok, the remains of four people were found and exhumed, which according to initial assessments belong to the victims of enforced disappearance during the war.
According to the official announcement, on August 3, 2026, excavation activities continued in the framework of the treatment of locations suspected as mass graves in the villages of Kalludër and Jabukë. Due to the conditions and specifics of the terrain, the works are concentrated in the location of Jabuka e Vogël.
“During the excavations carried out today in Jabukë i Vogël, the mortal remains of four people were found and exhumed, which, according to initial estimates, belong to the victims of forced disappearance during the war”, the Commission’s announcement states.
The remains have been sent to the Institute of Forensic Medicine, where they will undergo further forensic examinations, including identification through DNA analysis.
The commission announced that in the following days, the evaluation excavations will continue at the location of the mass grave in Kalludër, where the works had started last week, as well as in other marked locations.
The excavation and exhumation process was carried out by the forensic experts of the Institute of Forensic Medicine, including EULEX experts engaged within the institute, with the support of the Kosovo Police, security and justice institutions, the Association for Search and Rescue and the Governmental Commission for Missing Persons. The Commission reiterated its commitment to continue, in cooperation with local institutions and international partners, efforts to clarify the fate and location of persons forcibly disappeared during the war, as well as to guarantee the right of family members to learn the fate of their loved ones.
