The election silence begins in Serbia, on October 25 the new parliament will be voted on

The election silence started at midnight in Serbia, on the eve of the extraordinary parliamentary elections, which will be held on Sunday. It will last until 20:00, when the polling stations close.

During this period, any form of election campaign and any attempt to influence the will of the voters is prohibited. Serbian legislation also prohibits the publication of polls and evaluations of results, the promotion of candidates and their programs, and calls to vote or not to vote for certain lists.

According to REL, the main challenge to Aleksandar Vučić’s Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) comes from a student movement, which gained strength after long protests against corruption and the government.

The student movement has no formal leader and its list consists mainly of non-partisan figures, including university professors. A total of 18 electoral lists participate in the race, among them two opposition coalitions represented in the parliament, one pro-European and one right-wing.

Elections are held for 250 seats in the Parliament of Serbia. Regular lists must receive at least 3% of the vote to secure seats, while national minority lists benefit from special rules and are not subject to the same electoral threshold.
