Prime Minister Albin Kurti met again this Tuesday (March 3) with the head of the LDK, Lumir Abdixhiku, to reach a solution for the name of the president. From the meeting between the two, no concrete name has been reached.
“TThe meeting went in a constructive atmosphere, but when there is something new, we will let you know. We still don’t have the solutions, but we will let you know soon”declared Kurti.
Meanwhile, the countdown to the election of the new head of state has started.
The day before, Kurti said that the country needs a name that provides 84 to 85 votes in the box, while he warned that in order to avoid elections, he will continue to work until a result is reached.
Meanwhile, the leader of the LDK, Abdixhiku, has said that he finds it very difficult to reach a political consensus for the election of the state president. The head of the LDK said that at this stage they do not have a negative attitude towards anyone, and even less towards Osmani.
Vjosa Osmani was elected president of the state on April 4, 2021, only in the third round of voting, after failing to get the necessary 80 votes the first two times.
According to RTK, the Constitution of Kosovo states that the election of the president of the Republic must be done no later than thirty days before the end of the mandate of the current president. There can be two or more candidates in the race.
Candidates can enter the race after securing 30 signatures of deputies, while the post can be won after receiving two-thirds of the votes of all deputies.
And if no candidate receives a two-thirds majority in the first two votes, a third vote is organized between the two candidates who received the highest number of votes in the second vote, and the candidate who receives the majority of votes of all deputies is elected president of the Republic.
If in the third vote, no candidate is elected president, the Assembly is dissolved and new elections are announced, which must be held within 45 days.
