The head of NASA, Jared Isaacman, announced at a ceremony in Houston, Texas, that the members of the crew of the Artemis III mission, which is to be launched next year, will be the Americans Andre Douglas, Frank Rubio and Randy Bresnik and the Italian Luca Parmitano.
The Artemis III mission was preceded by the Artemis II mission in April, during which four NASA astronauts made a flight around the moon and got further from Earth than anyone before. Next year, the new crew is to follow up with the Artemis III mission, when a spacecraft docking test will take place in Earth’s orbit and the landing modules of Elon Musk’s SpaceX and Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin will be tested for the first time in space, Reuters noted.
Artemis III will pave the way for the Artemis IV mission, which plans to land two astronauts near the moon’s south pole in 2028. It will be NASA’s first manned landing on the moon since Apollo 17 in 1972.
The Czech Republic will probably look into space soon. Army pilot and reserve astronaut Aleš Svoboda should fly to the International Space Station (ISS), Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš announced on Monday. According to him, the mission is planned for the second half of 2027. This results from the agreement on the implementation of the Czech orbital mission to the ISS, which was signed by the European Space Agency (ESA) and Vast.
