The business of poverty flourishes in Tachovská. Parents are on benefits, children are running outside instead of going to school

According to the latest census, 249 people live in Kokašice. “We have about forty socially weak people on benefits here. Most of them are unemployed or on disability pension. And half of it is the Roma community,” Vojtěch outlined to Novinkám.

According to him, the mentioned group lives in inadequate facilities, where they pay a high rent to a private person. “Our business with poverty is flourishing here,” he emphasized. According to the mayor, the complication is also the fact that some of them are not even registered to stay in Kokašice. “Due to the expensive rent, they don’t have much money left. He owes for waste, he does not fulfill other obligations towards the village, he disturbs the peace at night,” he listed. Subsequently, disputes arise between residents.

Vojtěch added that unfortunately the children do not go to school and run around alone outside. “They are not very well dressed, they are picking out containers with clothes. In the summer, fruits and vegetables are lost in our gardens,” he said.

According to him, the solution would be mandatory registration of residents in the place where they actually live, as well as control of social benefits. “They should be paid under stricter conditions, for example if the children actually go to school,” he suggested.

Lumír Kadlec (SNK), who runs the nearby Bezdružice, has a similar experience. During Monday’s discussion, he described the fight against poverty as very difficult. “Entrepreneurs buy a ruin and then move one or two Roma families into it and earn maybe fifteen thousand on rent,” calculated Kadlec.

He added that benefits are abused in some cases, which is wrong. Jindřich Sitta, who arrived at the debate, agreed with his opinion. “It can’t be that some people have more in benefits than people who go to work,” he was angry.

The Minister of the Interior pointed out that a revision of social benefits is being prepared, when certain requirements for their payment will be tightened. “One of the criteria should be the children’s attendance at school, or the resolution of foreclosures and the like,” pointed out the Austrian.

He considers the so-called joint controls, in which police officers or representatives of the office would participate, to be important. Among other things, they would focus on the conditions in which people live, landlords and their business licenses. “This creates pressure on accommodation providers not to provide inadequate accommodation. It is a way to influence the situation,” he stated.
