The attack on the Christmas market in Magdeburg has a sixth victim, three hundred are injured

Twelve of the injured have citizenship other than German, some have dual citizenship.

After the attack on Christmas markets in Magdeburg, the number of injured rose to 299. Some people have not yet been recorded because they reported late or were assigned later, the interior ministry said. So far, there have been 235 injured.

On Friday, December 20, 50-year-old Saudi Arabian doctor Tálib A., who has been living in Germany for a long time, drove at high speed to the Christmas markets in the center of Magdeburg, the capital of the federal state of Saxony-Anhalt. The motive for the crime is still unclear.

The investigation into the case is expected to take weeks. “If and how the perpetrator is mentally ill, experts must find out, we will have an expert opinion drawn up,” said the spokesman of the public prosecutor’s office. It will also be determined whether the security of the markets was sufficient. This includes, for example, the issue of gaps in concrete roadblocks, the lack of security of escape routes and the location of the police vehicle.

The arrested attacker claimed, for example, that Germany is allowing Islamists from Syria to join them, while at the same time destroying the lives of former Muslims from Saudi Arabia, where he himself comes from. The man also had long-term disputes with the German authorities, whom he repeatedly threatened. In the Saudi Arabian community, according to earlier media reports, he was known as an aggressive and isolated person, he never participated in meetings of opposition representatives.

After the crime, the men took a quick drug test and then a blood test. The State Prosecutor’s Office did not want to comment on the individual results of the investigation. The office only confirmed that a will was found in the perpetrator’s car. It was dated to the day of the crime, the spokesman said. Whether the perpetrator wrote the will himself is the subject of investigation.
