Pokrovsk is one of the key points of the Ukrainian defense and for the last few months it has also been the main target of the Russian offensive in the Donetsk region. Mandatory evacuations were announced there already in August.
At the moment of the fall of Kurachov, the Russian forces advancing from Vuhledar would have the road to Pokrovsk open.
Syrskyj allegedly arrived at the decision on the basis of direct communication with commanders in the Donetsk region, reports the Ukrainska pravda server. “The main goal is to personally communicate with the commanders who are directly involved in the fighting, so that problematic matters can be resolved and extensive assistance can be provided,” Syrskyj underlined the importance of the fact that commanders active on the front participate in decisions.
“As a result of this work, all necessary decisions were made to strengthen the units with reservists, additional ammunition, weapons and military equipment,” stated the result of the interviews with the commanders.
