Putin is planning attacks on Ukrainian nuclear power plants, Zelensky said at the UN

“Because Russia cannot overcome the determination of our people on the battlefield, Putin is looking for other tactics,” said the Ukrainian president, adding that one of them is attacks on the Ukrainian energy infrastructure. “Imagine your own country without 60% of its energy. What kind of life is this?” he added.

Now, however, he is mainly afraid of “the day that must never come”. That is the day Russia would cause a nuclear incident. Recently, the Russian head of state Vladimir Putin is said to be collecting detailed plans and images of Ukrainian nuclear power plants. “Radiation will not respect national borders, and many other countries may feel the impact,” said Zelenskyj.

Zelenskyi also spoke about the Ukrainian “peace formula”, which is based on summits of mutually equal states. While the UN can render Russia powerless with its right of veto in the Security Council, it does not have this power in the Ukrainian format. That is why Zelenskyj considers it to be crucial.

On the contrary, he criticized third parties, namely Brazil and China, which present their own “half-hearted” peace plans, “which ignore the suffering of Ukrainians and allow Russia to continue the war.” According to Zelensky, Putin will only reward them with further suffering for their efforts for an incomplete ceasefire. He also raised the question of what interests Brazil and China have in such a truce.
