Petr Pavel is the president of the Czech Republic. In the second round of the 2023 presidential election, he defeated his opponent, Andrej Babiš, with 58.32% of the vote.
Czech elite soldier Petr Pavel officially announced his candidacy for the presidency in September 2022. When the reserve general returned in 2018 from a super-prestigious mission in NATO, where he held the highest military post, he did not take up any position or other job. He started to get involved socially. In 2020 founded the Together stronger initiativewhich helped people on the front line during the covid pandemic.

Petr Pavel started his military career in the communist Warsaw Pact, but reached its peak in the democratic Czech army, where he was chief of the general staff between 2012 and 2015. But he also has combat experience, on a foreign mission in what was then Yugoslavia, he commanded a unit that freed a group of surrounded French soldiers in the middle of the Croatian-Serbian armed conflict.
He gained his first experience in military diplomacy as a representative of the military and aviation attaché of the Czech Republic in Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg. Between 1985 and 1989, Pavel was a member of the communist party KSČ, which he now calls a mistake. He is married and has two sons with his wife Eva Pavlova.
