The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, has delivered an exciting speech at the US Army War College, where he praised the crucial role of US soldiers and NATO allies in the liberation of Kosovo and its construction as a safe and sovereign state.
It has recalled the dark period of the 1998-1999 war, when the people of Kosovo experienced deportations, killings and destruction, stressing that in those critical moments, the United States and NATO gave hope and freedom to the country.
“It was a time when we were being expelled from our homes, when our loved ones were being killed in front of our eyes. And where our childhood was merely war, conflict, destruction and suffering. Our very existence was in question. And in those darkest hours, America stayed with us, ”Osmani said. She described the moments when American soldiers arrived in Kosovo, bringing hope and security. They saw their saviors. For us, that flag was not just a symbol of another state. He was the symbol of a promise that even people in smaller countries would not be abandoned if they were standing for their right given by God to be free”Osmani said.
President Osmani underlined that this promise continues to live and that Kosovo today is proud as “the most pro-American country on Earth”.
She expressed the deep gratitude of the people of Kosovo for the continued support of the United States, stressing that the partnership between the two countries remains a strong pillar of security and democracy.
In her speech, President Osmani also spoke about the terrorist attack in Banjska of 2023, which he described as an act of aggression directed and backed by Serbia, which she described as “Russia’s Proxy” in the region.
According to her, this attack was not only intended for Kosovo, but also the fundamental values that unite free nations, such as democracy, freedom and the rule of law.
“This was not just an attack against Kosovo. It was an attack against the values that unite us. It was an attack against everything America stood for. It was an attempt to destroy everything American that had reached in our region”Osmani declared.
She stressed that Kosovo’s response to this attack was strong and responsible, closely coordinated with the Allies, especially the United States.
“We defended our people. We defended our sovereignty. And we did this in close coordination with our allies, mainly the United States, because we know that the power of a democracy is not only measured by the size of a country’s territory, but, above all, to its alliances size”The President added.
Osman underlined the importance of strong alliances and international cooperation to guarantee security and stability. It introduced Kosovo as an example of success of NATO intervention and American support, turning a war-torn country into a sustainable and sovereign democracy.
Osman reiterated Kosovo’s commitment to protect democratic values and contribute to global peace and security, in partnership with the US and other allies.
