NATO chief: I can’t say that I support Ukraine’s entire plan for victory

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Wednesday in Kyiv that the plan for his country’s victory in the war with Russia has five points and three secret amendments. According to the president, the first point is the invitation to NATO. Kyiv also proposes, among other things, to deploy deterrent non-nuclear means on its territory. At the same time, some key allies of Kyiv do not want to invite Ukraine to the North Atlantic Alliance before the end of the war against Russian forces, the AP agency reminds.

Rutte said that he is well acquainted with the details of the Ukrainian plan. According to him, the process of Ukraine joining NATO is irreversible, but the Ukrainian plan also contains other points. However, it is not yet clear which of them he will find problematic. Rutte wants to discuss further steps with allied countries.

“Today I can announce that NATO allies have provided military aid to Ukraine in the amount of 20.9 billion euros in the first half of 2024 and are on track to fulfill their obligations for the rest of the year,” he further noted.

According to the Kremlin, the effort to prevent the expansion of NATO towards the Russian borders was one of the reasons for the military aggression against Ukraine in February 2022. Since then, Ukraine has been defending itself against the invasion with Western support. Sweden, which was neutral at the time, and Finland, which is Russia’s neighbor, joined the Alliance since then in an attempt to strengthen their own security.
