The head of the Government of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, announced that the first DNA results of the mortal remains found in the mass cemeteries that were discovered in Kalludër and Jabukë of Zubin Potok have been released. Through the message published on Facebook, the Prime Minister says that three of the confirmed victims belong to persons known as the “Group of Intellectuals of Mitrovica” kidnapped and disappeared on April 19, 1999 by Serbian forces.
“The truth about the fate of our loved ones and justice for the victims and their families will be at the center of our commitment. An inseparable part of this agenda will be the request that the United States of America, the European Union and the United Kingdom increase pressure on Serbia to open the archives and provide information that enables the fate of the disappeared persons to be clarified” – writes Kurti on the social network.
The Prime Minister of Kosovo did not reveal the identities of the victims, but said that their families have already been notified. “With the hope that other families will also receive the answers they have been waiting for for 27 years, no answer can extinguish the pain of loss, but knowing the truth ends the anxiety of waiting to learn the fate of loved ones,” Kurti underlined. His announcement comes about two months after three mass graves were discovered in two municipalities in the north of the country, where the remains of at least 23 people who disappeared during the 1998-1999 war in Kosovo were found.
