French President Emmanuel Macron stated that Montenegro has implemented important reforms with European determination, calling this a great opportunity for Europe.
Macron is on an official visit to Montenegro – the first of a French president in this country – just a day before the EU-Western Balkans Summit to be held in Tivat.
At the joint press conference with Montenegrin President Jakov Milatović, Macron said that,
“We want to ambitiously develop cooperation and friendship with Montenegro. We will sign important agreements on energy, defense and hospital construction. This includes the Center for the Development of Cyber Capacities in Podgorica.”
He emphasized that France will remain by Montenegro’s side in the last phase of the road to EU membership, congratulating the reforms carried out and the closing of the negotiation chapters.
Macron assessed that Montenegro has the strength to preserve its identity and sovereignty, seeing this as a value for European integration.
