Kurti congratulates Albanians on November 28: This date is our holy national sign

The acting Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, today congratulated all Albanians, wherever they are, on the occasion of November 28, the Day of the Flag and Independence of Albania. In a post on the Facebook social network, Kurti described this date as a key point in Albanian history and national identity.

“It is not known that there is another nation in the world whose fate has been so inextricably intertwined with a certain date, as November 28 is intertwined with the fate of our nation,” he writes, mentioning the raising of Skanderbeg’s flag in Kruja in 1443.

In his congratulations, Kurti also remembers November 28, 1912, when Ismail Qemali raised the flag in Vlora and proclaimed the independence of Albania. He mentions Sami Frashëri’s vision for a united Albania and quotes Luigj Gurakuqi, who in 1913 called the declaration of independence “priceless and hopeless”.

The Prime Minister in office also dwells on important historical events, which are also related to November 28: the birth of Adem Jashari, on November 28, 1955, in the towers of Jashari in Prekaz, the man who would be at the forefront of the war for the freedom of Kosovo; as well as the public appearance of the KLA, on November 28, 1997, as evidence that “this people was ready to make any sacrifice for freedom”.

Kurti emphasizes that all these efforts have been crowned today with two free and independent Albanian states: Albania and Kosovo.

In his message, he also talks about a “Third November”, which he describes as an aspiration for the future.

“This Third November, even if it does not fall on this day, we can christen it today as our Third November 28. Then the legacy of all Albanian patriots will be fulfilled“, he says.
