The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, will hand over the task after the end of her 5-year mandate, as the country is facing an institutional transition phase, until the new head of state is appointed.
This Saturday at 4:00 p.m., President Osmani will officially hand over the duties to the Speaker of the Assembly of Kosovo, Albulena Haxhiu. The handover-acceptance ceremony will take place in the President’s Cabinet, according to the announcement of the Presidency.
“At 4:00 p.m., the President of the Republic of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, hands over the office to the Speaker of the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo, Albulena Haxhiu. The ceremonial handover-acceptance of the office will be held in the President’s Cabinet,” the press release states.
With this act, Albulena Haxhiu will exercise the office of president until the election of a new head of state by the Assembly. According to the Constitution, the incumbent can hold this post for a period not longer than 6 months. The Assembly of Kosovo has until April 28 to elect the new president.
