Kosovo- The election of the president fails, LVV appeals to the Constitution

The Assembly of Kosovo has failed to elect the new president, as the scheduled session failed to take place due to the lack of quorum. The MPs present were not enough to continue the process, leaving the country without an institutional solution at this important stage.

The Vetëvendosje Movement (LVV), as the main political force in power, has announced that it will turn to the Constitutional Court to request an interpretation of the created situation. The news was announced by the speaker of the Assembly, Albulena Haxhiu, through a post on social networks.

“We have just turned to the Constitutional Court regarding the evaluation of the constitutionality of the procedure for the election of the President of Kosovo. We have requested that the Constitutional Court impose a temporary measure for the suspension of the constitutional term related to the procedure for the election of the President, until the publication of the judgment“, she wrote, as she emphasized that President Vjosa Osmani has also been informed about this.

Today (May 5) is the deadline when Kosovo must start the procedures for the election of the new president.
