“Kosovo faces new political uncertainty”, EP Rapporteur: The failure to elect the president, disappointing

The Rapporteur for Kosovo in the European Parliament, Riho Terras, called the failure of the Assembly of Kosovo, which failed to elect the new president of the republic, disappointing.

“The Assembly of Kosovo failed to elect the President. This step is a serious setback. Instead of stability, the country faces new political uncertainty. Really disappointing.” – he wrote on the X network.

The reaction of the member of the European Parliament came after the president of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, announced on Friday that she has signed the decree for the dissolution of the Assembly, arguing that the deputies failed to fulfill the constitutional obligation to elect a new head of state within the deadline.

The President’s decision was opposed by the ruling party Vetëvendosje, but was supported by the opposition parties, which blamed the Prime Minister Albin Kurti’s Party for trying to control all the institutions.

The accusations came after LVV nominated two candidates for president Glauk Konjufca and Fatmire Kollçaku-Mullhaxhara.

On the evening of March 5, the opposition boycotted the session for the election of the president, causing Speaker Albulena Haxhiu to interrupt it due to lack of quorum.
