Kosovo, Bedri Hamza is elected chairman of the PDK, after the resignation of Memli Krasniqi

The Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) has changed its leadership today during the 12th Convention of the party. Bedri Hamza has been elected the new chairman of PDK, taking over the leadership of the party from Memli Krasniqi.

At the beginning of the Convention, Memli Krasniqi announced his resignation from the position of Chairman of PDK, a position he held for 4 years and 4 months.

Reasons for leaving

In front of the delegates, Krasniqi described the task of the chairman as “the greatest honor” of his political life, emphasizing that he is leaving “with gratitude, with pride, with peace.”

Arguing the decision, he emphasized that the PDK needs one “new energy and momentum” and for a leader who will simultaneously be a candidate for prime minister in the next national elections.

“I’m not quitting out of exhaustion or frustration. I’m doing it out of responsibility… because I believe our house is strong enough to rise to new heights,” said Krasniqi, adding that he is leaving the party “stronger than he had found it.”

He praised the achievements during his mandate, mentioning the revival of the PDK with victories in several key municipalities and the return to the role of the main opposition force.

After announcing his resignation, the party’s delegates elected Bedri Hamza, who is now expected to lead the PDK towards new electoral challenges.
