Kosovo, Abulena Haxhiu assumes the office of president, succeeds Vjosa Osmani as head of state, the agreement on the new name is expected

Albulena Haxhiu has officially taken office as acting President of Kosovo after the end of Vjosa Osman’s mandate. The handing over of the office was done this Saturday through a state ceremony where former president Osmani expressed her happiness that the baton was being passed to another woman.

During her speech, Osmani emphasized that the leadership of the state, army and diplomacy is an extraordinary responsibility for anyone. On the other hand, Haxhiu guaranteed respect for the Constitution, saying that he fully understands its obligations until the election of a successor.

This rotation came after the Assembly failed to choose a new name in time and Vjosa Osmani could not find the right support. The political clashes between the parties have left the chair of the head of state vacant, risking sending the country to early elections.

Prime Minister Albin Kurti has announced that next week he will start meetings with the leaders of the opposition to find a common language. The aim is to reach an agreement by April to avoid the crisis and ensure the necessary unity in the parliament.

Although Osmani leaves the presidency, she has made it clear that she will not retire from active political life. All eyes are now on the latest party moves to see if there will be white smoke for the new name.
