On the occasion of the fifth anniversary of the signing of the Washington Agreement, former Prime Minister Avdullah Hoti, now a deputy of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), has considered this agreement as a historic achievement for Kosovo, which, according to him, created unique opportunities for: (1) strengthening the strategic partnership between Kosovo and the US, and (2). infrastructure ”.
Through a status on Facebook, Hoti writes that if the major infrastructure projects included in the agreement signed on September 4, 2020, Kosovo today would take its role as road, rail and energy nodes (through gas) in the region and beyond.
“If the major infrastructure projects included in this agreement were implemented, Kosovo Sot would take its role as road, rail and energy joints (through gas) in the region and beyond, with Fushe Kosova as a dry trade port that would connect the ports of Durres and Thessaloniki, to continue north for Central Europe. Politically, the agreement brought recognition from Israel, breaking the several-year blockade of lack of recognition and advancing Kosovo’s international subjectivity”, Hoti wrote.
According to Hoti, Kosovo institutions have neglected this agreement.
“Unfortunately for Kosovo and every citizen, the agreement was neglected by the Kosovo institutions emerging from the 2021 elections. When the agreement was signed, it was strongly criticized by the opposition at the time. Today, after five years, everyone is convinced of its strategic importance, including those who described it as national betrayal, ” wrote Hoti.
