Heavy rain in Ayvalık: Basements and lands flooded

BALIKESİR – Adverse weather conditions coming from the Balkans also negatively affected life in the Ayvalık district of Balıkesir.

The rains that started last night increased in intensity during the night hours. According to the meteorology; 70.7 kilograms of rain fell per square meter in the district in the rains that have continued since midnight. Due to the rains, some basements of apartments in Ayvalık and some workplaces in 150 Evler Neighborhood flooded. Due to the rains that damaged some cultivated lands in Altınova, the largest neighborhood of the district, Ayvalık Municipality teams fought tirelessly until morning under difficult conditions under the heavy rain to open the rainwater channels. BASKİ teams within Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality also made intensive efforts to open the clogged sewer lines. Rains are expected to start again in Ayvalık this afternoon and temperatures are expected to drop to around 0 to 5 degrees in the coming days.
