The Regional Hospital of Kukës, but also the hospitals of Has and Tropoja, do not have the necessary capacities to provide some specialized health services.
For years, these services, especially hemodialysis, have been offered in the regional hospitals of Prizren and Gjakova. The prefect of the district, Dritan Baji, said that everything works on the basis of interstate agreements between Albania and Kosovo.
“Citizens of Kukës, Has and Tropoja receive specialized medical services near these centers of the Republic of Kosovo. Due to the specifics, there are treatments that our hospital does not cover,” said Baji.
The Kukës hospital also has a special collaboration with the Prizren hospital, from which doctors and surgeons are engaged to assist at the Kukës regional hospital.
“Kosovo surgeons assist us in performing operations near the Kukes hospital,” he added.
Prefect Baji emphasized that this cooperation is stable, considering the efficient results it has given over the years. From Kukësi, Hasi and Tropoja there are many cases of medical emergencies that are transferred to Prizren and Gjakova for more specialized treatment, as well as for other surgical services.
For many years, about 27 patients from Kukësi, Hasi and Tropoja have received and continue to receive the hemodialysis service near the hospitals of Prizren and Gjakova.
