Five dogs in Belgium bit a seven-year-old boy to death

It is not clear why the dogs attacked the boy. According to the DHnet.be server, they knew the boy named Aodren because he regularly took care of them. All attacking malamutes were no older than one year.

When the dogs attacked the boy on Thursday, his mother immediately went to his aid. The dogs finally let the child go, but he suffered serious injuries. The ambulance took him to the hospital in critical condition, where the boy died.

“It is a tragedy that affects the family, but also a tragedy that affects the entire municipality of Quévy and its residents,” said Mayor David Volant. The case is being handled by the police and the public prosecutor’s office, which have opened an investigation on suspicion of negligent homicide.

Malamutes are not on the list of dangerous dog breeds in Belgium. However, the experts contacted pointed out that these dogs live in packs and can sometimes show “very dominant” behavior.

The mayor later announced that the attacking dogs were euthanized on Saturday with the consent of the family. “They posed a clear danger to the public,” said Volant according to the 7sur7.be server.

Not only the family and village are in shock from the tragedy, but also the school where Aodren went to first grade. The school announced on Facebook the opening of a bank account to help the devastated family.
