The predator was captured by a group of fishermen on video, which was subsequently published on its Facebook account by one of the local restaurants. According to the server Dnevno, it is a shark that attacked and tore apart a swordfish.
Subsequently, he circled around his prey and kept it under surveillance. One of the fishermen can then be heard on the recording: “He is protecting his catch. You can see how he chopped it up.”
The published video provoked a number of reactions on social networks, where the discussants pointed to climate changes in the Adriatic and discussed whether and how the shark is dangerous. “The Adriatic Sea has become dangerously warm, sharks of all kinds have appeared here. This is not good,” wrote one user.
According to the Heute server, others said that due to this year’s observations in the Adriatic, they do not want to swim further than a few meters from the coast. “They don’t bathe anymore. I only go to eat fish and drink wine,” remarked one of them.
The mako shark can reach speeds of up to 70 kilometers per hour and is very agile. It belongs to protected species.
The Florida ISAF Museum registers eight unprovoked attacks by mako sharks, two of which were fatal. In 2022, he attacked an Austrian tourist in an Egyptian resort near Hurghada. The woman lost an arm and a leg and succumbed to her injuries while being transported to the hospital.
