The European Union Office in Kosovo has called on all political subjects and their representatives in the electoral bodies to contribute to the development of a peaceful, democratic and comprehensive electoral process, on the eve of the early parliamentary elections to be held on June 7.
Through a public statement, the EU emphasized the importance of respecting democratic standards during the voting process, underlining that free and fair elections are the foundation for strengthening institutions and Kosovo’s advancement on the road to European integration.
“On the eve of the early elections, the EU in Kosovo calls on all political subjects and their representatives in the electoral bodies to ensure a peaceful, free, fair and comprehensive vote. The establishment of Kosovo’s institutions and its integration into the EU are essential”, says the message of the European Union Office.
Citizens of Kosovo will go to the ballot boxes on Sunday to choose the new composition of the Assembly and the future government of the country. Electoral institutions have completed the last preparations for the organization of the process, while special attention has been paid to the participation of the diaspora.
As of 07:00 this morning, 17 embassies and 13 consulates of Kosovo in 18 countries have opened voting centers for registered citizens who have chosen to vote physically at diplomatic missions. The voting process in these centers will last until 19:00.
According to the data of the Central Election Commission, a total of 27,724 citizens of Kosovo have registered to vote in 30 diplomatic and consular missions abroad.
Meanwhile, today also ends the deadline for voting by mail, a form of voting that has been chosen by more than 104,000 citizens registered outside of Kosovo. This number is considered one of the highest of diaspora participation in the country’s election processes.
After the close of voting in embassies, consulates and through the mail, all ballots will be transported to Kosovo, where they will be subjected to the process of verification and counting by the responsible election authorities.
