Election silence in North Macedonia – The second round of local elections will be held on Sunday

Citizens of 33 municipalities, including the City of Skopje, vote in the second round of local elections to elect the heads of their municipalities.

Voting is repeated two weeks after the day of the process on October 19, in the municipalities where the election of the mayor was not achieved in the first round of elections.

In these municipalities, according to the Electoral Code, only the two candidates with the largest number of votes received on October 19 face each other in the runoff.

From midnight the country is in electoral silence which lasts until Sunday at 19:00 when the polling stations are closed.

Citizens of the municipalities in the runoff will go to the ballot boxes from 07:00. Tetova is one of the municipalities where citizens will vote on November 2.

In this municipality, the candidates of the two Albanian blocs will face each other, Bilall Kasami from the governing coalition VLEN and Bajram Rexhepi from the National Alliance for Integration, which is led by the Albanian party in opposition, the Democratic Union for Integration.

The result in Tetovo, where the two Albanian coalitions face each other, but also those in the city of Skopje, Kirçovo, Struga and Koçan, according to analysts, may depend on the votes of the candidates who lost in the first round. Of the municipalities in the runoff, there will be more confrontations between the Macedonian parties VMRO-DPMNE and SDSM.

Over 1 million citizens out of over 1.8 million registered voters are entitled to vote in the second round.

In the City of Skopje, over 474,000 citizens have the right to vote. The local elections will be monitored by over 15 local and international observers.
