Dozens of trucks are blocked in Han t Hoti, the protest of truck drivers in Montenegro against a new EU rule

The reason for this protest is related to the implementation of a new European Union rule for entry and exit in the Schengen area, which aims to increase border security and has been implemented since October of last year.

For security reasons and to avoid blocking roads or possible incidents, it has been decided to stop the circulation of heavy tonnage vehicles from Albania to Montenegro until the end of the protest. Meanwhile, only small vehicles, emergency vehicles, buses and passenger transport vehicles will be allowed to travel on the road axes leading to the border points with the Republic of Montenegro.

The Border Police asks for the understanding of the drivers of heavy tonnage vehicles to respect this temporary restriction, in order to avoid possible blockages and incidents.

According to the data of the customs personnel, on normal working days, on average, about 120 trucks with goods, as well as about 20 transit trucks, circulate from Hani i Hoti Customs. This is the second protest organized by the truck drivers of the Republic of Montenegro, after the one held at the end of January this year.
