This week may bring concrete developments in the talks between the Vetëvendosje Movement, which came first in the June 7 elections, and the second opposition party, the Democratic League of Kosovo, on the creation of new institutions.
The warning came the day before from acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti, saying that he expects results from the talks with Lumir Abdixik, while the parties must be prepared for August 6, when the session for the constitution of the Assembly is held.
In order to be constituted, the chairman and five vice-chairmen of the legislative institution must be elected.
The Vetëvendosje movement with its 53 deputies and the votes of non-Albanian community parties can successfully overcome this link, but Albin Kurti needs an agreement with the opposition party LDK, which on June 7 provided 18 deputies to elect the new president of the country, so that Kosovo can break the cycle of political and institutional deadlock in which it has been involved since last year.
While for the election of the head of the Assembly and the new government, 61 votes are needed, for the new head of state, a majority of 2/3 of the votes of the deputies is needed, and for the session to be held, at least 80 legislators must be present in the hall.
