Danko accused the president of wanting to oust Fico and appoint a caretaker government

In the Slovak Television and Radio (STVR) program Sobotní dialogy, Danko pointed out that Pellegrini is not only the head of state, but also continues to be the honorary chairman of the government party Voice of Social Democracy. “Someone here is pursuing the goal of overthrowing Robert Fico so that there is an official government. Then they will run this state from the Presidential Palace,” Danko let himself be heard.

“I want to refute it absolutely. We have enough other things to do than organize a coup,” Pellegrini responded, saying that Danko should stop disbanding the coalition. “The main cause of instability is the strange behavior of Mr. Danek,” added the head of state.

It is a fact that three SNS deputies around Rudolf Huliak and also four Hlas deputies around Samuel Migaľ do not vote with the government coalition every time. “If Robert Fico has to ask for confidence in the autumn of next year, and people like Migaľ and others like him, who fundamentally dislike him and invent conflicts, do not give him confidence, then a caretaker government will come,” said Danko.

As Denník N pointed out, Fico’s government will have to ask parliament for a vote of confidence in the fall of 2025, because the law on the debt brake requires it. The amount of the national debt is in the range when the government has this obligation. This year she still had an exception, because she is in charge for the first year, the letter reminded.

Opposition game

The Hlas party responded to Danko’s words by declaring that the chairman of the SNS fell into the opposition’s game and sent a signal to government deputies that the agreements do not need to be respected. According to Hlas, Danko succumbed to unnecessary emotions when he attacked his coalition partner and the head of state. “The main reason for the disputes in the government coalition is the open contempt for the basic rules established in the coalition agreement,” Hlas said in his statement.

Deputy Migaľ has already said that he feels bound to vote only for laws that are in line with the government’s program.

The government coalition Smér, Hlas and SNS has 79 votes in the 150-member parliament. At the last parliamentary meeting, however, it repeatedly happened that if deputies from the groups around Huliak and Migaľ did not register their presence, the parliament was blocked.
