Appeal of the ‘Special’ decision/Government of Kosovo creates the working group for the support of the former leaders of the KLA

Prime Minister Albin Kurti announced the decision approved by the Kosovo government for the creation of a working group for the coordination of legal, institutional and diplomatic support for the former leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army in the Appeal procedures. He reiterated that the first-instance decision is unfair, emphasizing the need for a state and national strategy for the Appeals process that transcends party differences and unites institutions around a common goal, success.

“Today we are establishing the working group chaired by the first deputy prime minister and the minister of foreign affairs and diaspora, Mr. Glauk Konjufca, with institutional and parliamentary representation to coordinate legal, institutional and diplomatic support in function of the Appeal procedures. With this decision, we are concretizing our commitment to, with the means at our disposal, commit ourselves to justice and to the protection of the historical truth of our liberation war“, he said.

After welcoming the government’s decision, Speaker of Parliament Albulena Haxhiu announced that a representative of the Presidency of the Assembly will be part of the working group for drafting the state strategy in support of the 4 former members of the KLA in Apel.

On September 16, the Specialized Chambers of Kosovo in The Hague sentenced former president Hashim Thaçi, former parliamentarians Jakup Krasniqi and Kadri Veseli and former deputy Rexhep Selimi to a total of 81 years in prison.
