A new fire broke out Wednesday morning local time (evening Central European time) in the Castaic Lake area about 80 kilometers north of Los Angeles. Due to the strong wind, the fire began to spread quickly and threatens the homes of tens of thousands of people. In addition to the almost 20,000 people who were ordered to evacuate by the authorities, another 15,000 residents have been advised to be on alert to leave their homes.
The police closed an almost 50-kilometer section of the north-south road artery I5, near which the element feeding on local vegetation is rampant. About a thousand firefighters were deployed for the new fire, and helicopters are also helping to put it out.

Already on Tuesday, meteorologists issued a rarely seen warning of an “extremely hazardous situation” for parts of Los Angeles, Ventura and San Diego counties. Wind gusts reaching speeds of over 110 kilometers per hour were waiting in the local hills.
Firefighters are still fighting two massive fires in the Palisades area west of Los Angeles and Eaton east of it, which destroyed 15,000 buildings and killed 28 people in the first weeks of January. They managed to get the first of them under control from more than two thirds, the second from more than 90 percent.
