Amy Winehouse’s ex-husband spoke about her death years later

The love story of Amy Winehouse and Blake Fielder-Civil began around 2005 in a London pub. It was initially a wild novel full of passion, sex and parties. Rather quickly, however, he began to drown in addictions.

They were married between 2007 and 2009. Then they divorced. Many fans still believe that it was Fielder-Civil who led Winehouse to stronger addictive substances, addiction and fatal fall.

“I know that many people, especially those who watched the media twenty years ago, still believe that Amy’s death was my fault. If I felt that way, I would admit it. But Amy had her will. She was a very strong woman and she did what she wanted, even if she knew it was harmful to her,” admitted her ex-husband, who is 43 years old today, in the We Need to Talk podcast, according to People magazine.

He also said that he is aware of his media image, but refuses to take full responsibility for what happened to the singer. He explained that their joint problem with addictive substances was developing. “We weren’t addicts when we met. We became addicts together,” he said.

Amy Winehouse died on July 23, 2011 of alcohol poisoning, as the coroner found at the time. According to him, no illegal substances were found in her body. She was 27 years old.

Fielder-Civil learned of her death in prison, where he was serving a sentence for theft. “My worst nightmare came. I immediately started crying,” he recalled of the tragic moment.

The hardest thing for him was that he couldn’t say goodbye to the love of his life and had to mourn in solitary confinement while the media lynched him.

Blake Fielder-Civil says today that he is completely sober and trying to live a full life again. At the end of the interview, he admitted that he thought Amy wouldn’t want him to bear all the blame for their dark past together after all these years.

“We were just young, addicted people. It can happen to anyone. I’ll never say she was bad. But I know she wouldn’t want me to sit here and say it’s all my fault. She’d say, ‘Do it right, honey. Come on, tell them the truth,'” he added.
