AKOM: Regional showers with occasional thunderstorms are expected to occur in Istanbul for 12-18 hours.

(ISTANBUL) AKOM announced that the effect of the cool and rainy weather coming from the Balkans will increase in the northern parts of the Marmara Sea, especially in Istanbul, as of tomorrow. According to the evaluation, while there has been a sudden decrease in air temperatures starting from this evening, it is expected that the rain will increase in intensity as of 06.00 on Saturday morning and there will be occasional thunderstorms throughout Istanbul for 12-18 hours.

According to the meteorological assessment of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Disaster Affairs Department AKOM; It is estimated that rainfall may be very heavy in the range of 30-60 kilograms per square meter in the northern districts of Istanbul, such as Eyüp, Sarıyer, Beykoz, which are on the Black Sea coast, and in the eastern districts such as Şile, Sultanbeyli, Pendik, Tuzla. For this reason, it is predicted that the wind will become stronger from the north and blow as a storm (40-60 km/h) at intervals, accompanied by showers and temperatures will drop to around 25 degrees.

AKOM stated that it is important for relevant institutions and units to take the necessary precautions against possible negativities. In this context, it was requested that garbage and similar wastes be collected, rain water grates and chimneys should be cleaned, duty teams should be assigned outside working hours and personnel should be available at critical points.

Citizens were called to be careful and cautious against the negativities that may occur due to sudden floods, transportation disruptions, lightning and heavy rain.
