“Minab District Governor Mohammad Radmehr announced that the number of female students killed at Shajare-ye Tayiba Elementary School in Minab, Hormozgan has reached forty. 48 female students were also reported injured,” wrote Turkey’s state-run Anadolu Agency.
The deputy governor of Hormozgan previously stated that “there are 170 students in Shajare-ye Tayib elementary school in the morning” and therefore it is possible that the number of victims will increase. According to him, the school received a “direct hit”, reported the Persian-language station Radio Farda, which falls under the American Radio Svoboda. She added that the information could not be independently verified.
Iranian media have already published videos that are supposed to show the site of the intervention.
So far, Israel has not commented on the Iranian news about the attack on the girls’ school. The Israeli military previously announced that Israeli and US strikes had hit “dozens of military targets” in Iran. Several naval bases of the Iranian armed forces are located in the province of Hormozgan, the DPA agency noted.
On Saturday morning, the United States together with Israel launched large-scale strikes on targets in Iran. US President Donald Trump said that the US will make sure that Tehran does not get a nuclear weapon, but it is possible that US soldiers will die during the military operation.
At the same time, he called on the Iranian people to take to the streets and take over the government of their country. Israeli Defense Minister Yisrael Kac said that it was a preventive attack. Meanwhile, Iran launched retaliatory strikes against Israel and American bases in the region. At least one dead, a foreigner from an Asian country, is reported by the United Arab Emirates after the Iranian strike.
