The report on Sunday’s attack was issued by the Egyptian Ministry of the Environment. According to Arabic CNN, the persons were to be taken to the hospital in Port Ghalib after the attack, one person died, another is injured.
According to the Italian agency ANSA, the victims of the attack are two Italian tourists – 48-year-old Gianluca Di Gioia died and a 69-year-old tourist from Genivolta in Lombardy is injured. The attack should have happened while they were diving.
For the next few days, the Egyptian authorities closed the part of the Red Sea coast where the tragic incident took place and started an investigation in an attempt to clarify its circumstances, reports ANSA.

At that time, he lightly pushed the shark away, apparently saving his family.
Attacks on people by sharks in Egypt, where 362,000 Czech tourists also went last year according to the CZSO, are not frequent, but they do happen occasionally. For example, last June a shark killed a Russian man at the beach in the resort of Hurghada, in July 2022 two women – an Austrian and a Romanian – died in the same day in the waters near the same city after being attacked by a shark or sharks.
A Czech victim was claimed in August 2018 by a fish attack in Marsa Alam. She became a 41-year-old man who was on vacation in Egypt with his wife and children.
