České dráhy reported on the damage to the catenary on the X social network. “Traffic in the section Hněvice – Roudnice nad Labem – Hrobce is stopped. According to the estimate of the Railway Administration, the resumption of traffic is expected around 12:00,” České dráhy said last night.
The stoppage of traffic in the vicinity of Roudnice complicates traffic between Prague and Děčín from night onwards. For example, the night train from Graz to Berlin NJ 456 had to take a diversion route in Kolín, avoid Prague and reach the corridor via Nymburk, Mělník and secondary stations in Ústí nad Labem and Děčín (Ústí – Střekov and Děčín – east). Passengers who wanted to take this line to Prague had to get off in Lysá nad Labem and a bus took them to Prague. And the bus replaced the transport on the route between the Prague and Děčín main stations.
The infrastructure crash also affects domestic trains. For example, the R600 Labe express train from Prague via Roudnica to Ústí nad Labem was completely abandoned by České dráhy. A broken traction line in Roudnice nad Labem has caused problems for the Czech railway several times this year. The last time it happened was in mid-October, even then it was torn down when a freight train passed by.
According to the website Zdopravy.cz, the cause is failure to respect the sign for electric traffic and subsequent driving into the so-called hook box. This prevents the train from entering the de-energized section. “It protects the employees on the construction site, but at the same time it usually completely destroys the pick-up of the locomotive or unit. One inattention of the train driver can stop the operation for several hours,” the website Zdopravy.cz reported already this October.
The problematic situation is related to the reconstruction of the Špindlerův bridge in Roudnice and the underpass height under this bridge. Because of it, hooks are deployed and the situation with the pulled down line is repeated. In addition, the completion of the bridge repair is constantly being postponed. So far, the last set date is the fall of next year.
