According to the representative of the fire department, the car first backed up 28 meters and then drove towards the outdoor market, before stopping after 150 meters. The driver, who according to the tests was not drunk, attributed the accident to sudden acceleration, Reuters wrote. The police arrested a roughly 60-year-old man after the incident, the Hangjore newspaper wrote.
“Mr. K. probably took the goods he received in the morning to the store, got into the vehicle, backed up briefly and then drove straight ahead, causing the accident,” added the newspaper.
The authorities initially stated that two of the injured fell into a coma after cardiac arrest. The AP agency later wrote that two people had died. The vehicle will now be given to investigators to try to determine the cause of the accident, Reuters added.
