“The dog remained inside the vehicle after its owner went to the store. The passenger also got out, but remained near the front door on the passenger side,” local station KNOP noted.
“During this time, the dog allegedly moved around in the back seats and came into contact with the shotgun stored in the vehicle,” the television added, adding that the weapon contained live ammunition, which the animal fired.
“The bullet apparently went through the front door on the passenger side, went across the parking lot and hit a woman who was stopped at a nearby intersection a few meters away,” the station notes, noting that the bullet hit the upper part of her right arm, which was stuck out the window at the time.
The injuries were not considered life-threatening and a family member subsequently took the woman to the hospital for treatment. The police, who are still investigating the case, have not yet informed the possible punishment for the owner of the dog.
