The Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) has publicly clarified that there is no official decision regarding the resignation of its chairman, Bedri Hamza, rejecting recent reports in some media.
In a statement from the Information Office of the PDK, it is reported that the chairman of the party has made his position on the future of the leadership clear: “There is no official decision regarding this issue. Mayor Hamza has publicly announced that, whenever the process of internal elections opens, he will resign and will not run again”.
According to PDK representatives, the main focus of the management structures at this stage remains focused on supporting the judicial process in The Hague. “At this stage, the party is focused on finalizing the steps to support the defense of the former leaders of the KLA in The Hague, in the appeal stage”informs the Information Office, adding that for any official decision, public opinion will be notified at the appropriate time.
The clarification of the party comes after media reports where it was claimed that Hamza has notified the leadership of his departure and that the formalization was expected within a few days. According to these allusions, the vice-president Vlora Çitaku was rumored to take up the position of acting president to prepare the next year’s Electoral Assembly.
