The Government of Kosovo establishes the working group for the support of the former leaders of the KLA in the Appeal

The Government of Kosovo has formed a working group for the drafting and coordination of the state strategy regarding the Appeal procedures in the Specialized Chambers in The Hague, in the case of the four former leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA). Prime Minister Albin Kurti has announced that the working group will be led by Deputy Prime Minister Glauk Konjufca and will include institutional and parliamentary representatives, with the aim of coordinating legal and institutional engagement during the Appeal phase.

Kurti has described the verdict of the first instance as unfair, arguing that, according to him, it is incorrect both from a legal, historical and moral point of view. He emphasized that Kosovo’s institutions will engage through the mechanisms they have available to support the Appeal process.

“For this, a state and national strategy is needed, as well as an organization that transcends party differences”stated Kurti. According to the Prime Minister, the formation of the working group aims to concretize the Government’s commitment to support the Appeal process and to protect the history of the KLA war.

“With this decision, we are concretizing our commitment to, with the means at our disposal, commit ourselves to justice and to the protection of the war history of the KLA”. he said.

The Head of Government has emphasized that the preparations for the Appeal phase must be based on a detailed analysis of the verdict and a well-organized strategy.

He has stated earlier that the Government will continue to provide the support made possible by the competences and institutional means, underlining the importance of coordination beyond political differences. The initiative comes after the verdict of the first instance against the four former leaders of the KLA, a process that is being followed closely in Kosovo and which is expected to continue in the Appeal phase in the Specialized Chambers in The Hague.
