“Freedom for the liberators”, with these calls, protested on Tuesday in front of the UN headquarters in New York, where the General Assembly is being held.
The association “Kosova” supported by other associations and many citizens expressed support and solidarity with the leaders of the KLA, opposed the decision of the Specialized Chambers of Kosovo in The Hague and demanded justice.
“Today, the voice of the Albanians was heard. This protest is an expression of the voice of the diaspora and of the memory of the sacrifice of those who fought for the freedom of Kosovo. Our voice should not be silent” – it is stated in their reaction.
Since September 16, when the Special Court gave the decision that sentenced the former leaders of the KLA to 81 years in prison, the protests have not stopped in Kosovo.
“These protests are just the beginning. We have gathered for a cause. We are together for the KLA” – said the organizers of the rally “Not in my name” in Pristina, while they warned of their expansion in all the cities of the country.
On October 1st, the “Freedom has a name” platform announced another mass march in Pristina, while asking the institutions of Kosovo to coordinate with Albania for the next steps after the decision of the Special Court.
Earlier, similar gatherings were held in Canada, Switzerland, Germany and Austria. A week ago, the Special Court found the former KLA leaders guilty of war crimes.
Hashim Thaçi and Jakup Krasniqi were each sentenced to 25 years in prison, Kadri Veseli to 18 years and Rexhep Selimi to 13 years in prison. The decision of the first instance of the Specialized Chambers of Kosovo in The Hague will be appealed.
