The students of the University of Pristina, but also of other higher schools of Kosovo, called the decision that the Special Court gave for the former president Hashim Thaçi, the former parliamentarians Kadri Veseli and Jakup Krasniqi, as well as the former MP Rexhep Selimi, an unfair punishment.
In a march that started at the Student Center with destination Skënderbeu Square, where speeches were held, the young people emphasized that no decision and no court can change the way the youth of Kosovo see the liberators of the country.
“We do not accept any unfair or punitive judgment against those who made this freedom possible for us. The youth of Kosovo today live freely in an independent, democratic and multi-ethnic state. Respecting and protecting all minorities in Kosovo, a people that has been oppressed for years knows well what it means to experience injustice, therefore we do not wish it on anyone. Through this message, I want to address both those who are unjustly in The Hague today, as well as the entire democratic world: there is no court or decision that will change the way the youth of Kosovo see our liberators.”
Among other things, the young people emphasized that they cannot remain silent in the face of the injustice done to those who fought and sacrificed for freedom.
“Today Prizren has not gathered to talk, today Prizren and Kosovo has gathered to talk. And the voice heard today is the voice of the students. We are a generation that did not experience war, but were born into the freedom that came after it. We came to universities, built dreams and planned the future because someone before us fought that we can do this. Therefore, when our past is touched, when the sacrifice of those who fought is discussed and when their families continue to carry the weight of that time on their shoulders, we cannot act as if it does not belong to us..”
