Haxhiu: Protection of the former leaders of the KLA, a civic and institutional duty

The Speaker of the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo and Acting President, Albulena Haxhiu, has stated that the protection of the former leaders of the KLA is a civic and institutional duty.

This protection, says Haxhiu, should not be done by labeling political opponents as “spies” or “traitors”, or by targeting witnesses and citizens of Kosovo.

“But no one protects them by immediately declaring political opponents ‘spies’ and ‘traitors’, targeting witnesses or looking for culprits among the citizens of Kosovo. Targeting with these designations, in protests, on television shows and in public posts, yesterday and today reproduces exactly the logic of the accusation leveled against the leaders of the KLA, labeling the opponent as an enemy and turning him into a target. Thus, in the name of defense, the accusation itself is given power”, she wrote on Facebook.

According to Haxhiu, the responsibility for individual testimonies and actions should be attributed to concrete persons and not to an entire people.

“The people do not testify. Individuals testify, each with a name and with personal responsibility. Therefore, the attempt to present an entire nation as a source of ‘spying’ is untrue, insulting and dangerous. It sows fear, incites lynching and turns pain into division”, stated Haxhiu.

She has called on any person who possesses data on individuals who have harmed or are harming the national and state interest to present them to the relevant institutions.

“On the other hand, anyone who has information about people who have harmed or are harming the national and now state interest, should submit them to our security and justice bodies as soon as possible. Because these cases must be addressed in full,” she said.

Haxhiu emphasized that no injustice can be corrected by causing another injustice.

“The values of the KLA war are not defended with slander and threats, but with the truth, justice and dignity that have kept our people alive. I call on every individual who goes out or acts publicly to show prudence and present the values and virtues that characterize us as a society and as a nation,” wrote Haxhiu.
