LDK unanimously supports Bekim Sejdi for president, consensus in the parliamentary group remains a challenge

The Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) has formalized its support for the proposed candidate for president, Bekim Sejdiu, after a meeting of the party leadership. The decision comes in the context of the discussions about the agreement reached with the Vetëvendosje Movement for the post of the head of state.

The member of the Presidency of the LDK, Berat Rukiqi, announced after the meeting that there was no stance against Sejdi’s candidacy within this body, stressing that the party should have a unified stance on this issue.

The deputy of this party, Jehona Lushaku, is positioned in the same line, who confirmed her support for Sejdi before the meeting. Referring to the negotiation process, she stated that the party had given full powers to the leadership.

“We have authorized the chairman and the team to negotiate and they have had full authorizations to make proposals and discuss the names.” she said.

Lushaku has also clarified that the structure of the LDK was not previously aware of the specific name that would be proposed as a candidate for president.

However, despite the unity displayed at the Presidency level, it still remains unclear whether this attitude will extend to the entire parliamentary group. The main challenge for the unification of the vote remains the position expressed the day before by MP Avdullah Hoti, who has openly declared that he will not vote for Bekim Sejdiu.

In order to address these divergences and to reach a common party position, a joint meeting of the Presidency with the parliamentary group of the LDK is expected to be held this afternoon.
