While a political agreement has not yet been reached for the election of the new president of Kosovo, the incumbent Albulena Haxhiu has sent an invitation to the leaders of the political parties for a joint meeting, while seeking confirmation for their participation.
“I invite you to a consultative meeting regarding the current political and institutional developments and the importance of reaching an agreement on the consensual President, and therefore the formation of other constitutional institutions“, it says in its announcement.
According to the president’s office, the meeting is scheduled to be held on Tuesday morning. The invitation comes a day after the Democratic League of Kosovo announced that it is withdrawing from negotiations for co-governance with the Vetëvendosje Movement, emphasizing that it is not seeking any post, but is ready to vote for a non-party figure for president.
Meanwhile, the acting prime minister and chairman of the Vetëvendosje Movement, Albin Kurti, said on Friday that the next president should be a consensual figure, with the widest possible political and civic support.
Kurti stated that the aim is to avoid the possibility of new elections through an agreement for the president. Meanwhile, PDK and AAK stayed in the Assembly hall on Friday, demanding the continuation of the constitutive session.
