The Mediterranean Games “Prishtina 2030” have officially entered the operational planning phase. Today, the first meeting of the Organizing Committee for the Mediterranean Games (KOLM) Prishtina 2030 was held in the Government of the Republic of Kosovo.
The meeting marks the start of the institutional work for the biggest sports event that Kosovo has ever organized.
What did the leaders say?
The mayor of Pristina, Përparim Rama, called the project historic
“The ‘Prishtina 2030’ Mediterranean Games are the largest international project that has ever been entrusted to Kosovo and a historic opportunity to present our country to the world. We have a great responsibility, but also an extraordinary opportunity. Time does not wait. Every day must be used for planning, coordination and decision-making. Prishtina will continue to fulfill every obligation with responsibility, professionalism and dedication.”
Prime Minister Albin Kurti emphasized the national importance of the project:
“Today in the Government of the Republic of Kosovo, we held the first meeting with the Organizing Committee for the Prishtina 2030 Mediterranean Games, one of the most important projects that our country will realize in the coming years. For the first time, our Republic will welcome a sports event of this magnitude, bringing together athletes, delegations and partners from different Mediterranean countries.”
Kurti added that KOLM has a special role as a common coordinating mechanism, where each institution contributes with its own responsibilities towards the common goal, and not as separate institutions.
Key information of “Prishtina 2030:
Dates: The Games are expected to be held from July 24 to August 4, 2030
Edition: Prishtina will host the XXI edition
Dimensions: Over 3,500 athletes are expected to land in Kosovo for the Mediterranean Games
Significance: The Mediterranean Games are an international multidisciplinary sporting event organized every four years under the umbrella of the International Committee of the Mediterranean Games and the 2030 edition will be held in Pristina, marking the first time that Kosovo has hosted such an event
A historical detail: “For the first time a non-coastal city, our Pristina becomes host. This will be the first time in the history of the Mediterranean Games where two countries will join forces, the essential sailing discipline in the Mediterranean Games will be played on the shores of Durrës”.
