The Prosecution Council of Kosovo has finally closed the door for the return of Serbian officials who left the justice system. At the last meeting, the request of five prosecutors and fifty administrative employees to withdraw their resignations was rejected.
This wave of mass exodus started in November 2022, after the calls of the Serbian List as a reaction to the license plate decision. Then about 130 judges and prosecutors abandoned their duties in the four northern municipalities.
Now the decision proposed by the vice-president Dardan Vuniqi opened the way for the final dismissal procedure. This movement was accelerated after the request of the acting president, Albulena Haxhiu, who stated that “any further delay seriously damages the normal functioning of justice in the country”.
On the other hand, the chairman Arian Gashi asked for more time, saying that “full coordination with the Judicial Council was needed first”. Meanwhile, the Judicial Council confirmed that it has not yet made a decision on similar requests by Serbian judges.
The eyes are already on the presidency, which must decree their official dismissal. While the developments continue in Pristina, the European Union announced that this issue remains part of the discussions in the Brussels dialogue
