Trakya University Rector Prof. Dr. Mustafa Hatipler stated that what happened on the night of July 15, when FETO’s treacherous coup attempt took place, should be kept fresh in memories.
In his speech at the July 15 Special Meeting held by the Trakya University Senate at the Balkan Congress Center, Hatipler said that he strongly condemned the treacherous coup attempt.
Stating that it is important to learn the necessary lessons from the coup attempt, Hatipler said, “It is necessary to keep a fresh memory of what happened on the night of July 15, 2016, and to evaluate the events on a regional and global basis, centered on Turkey.” he said.
Hatipler stated that Türkiye faced treacherous attacks from inside or outside during the periods when it tried to break the chains and become a global actor.
Emphasizing that the most vivid example of this happened on July 15, Hatipler said, “Interestingly, Turkey faced a treacherous coup attempt on the days when PKK terrorism was to be taken under control and the back of the KCK was to be broken. Thank God, with the common sense of our nation, Turkey survived this coup attempt without suffering great damage and by disrupting them. This type of organizations is not the first. We wish it to be the last. It is our duty to fight against these treacherous attempts, for our country, for our homeland.” “To work, to work without fear of anything, for Türkiye, for our country, for our university.” he said.
“Trakya University conducts science diplomacy in the Balkans”
At the meeting, Trakya University Balkan Research Institute Director Assoc. Dr. Sabri Can Sannav gave a conference titled “Balkans on the 10th anniversary of July 15: Security and Strategic Vision from History to the Future”.
Stating that the wars, economic problems and social transformation in the Balkans enabled FETO to establish itself in the region, Sannav stated that the organization has penetrated the Balkans subtly and deeply through educational institutions, student dormitories, scholarship programs and cultural centers.
Sannav stated that FETO created a wide educational network in the Balkans with 40 educational institutions, many dormitories and a student capacity of nearly 20 thousand, and that Türkiye made great efforts to destroy this network after the coup attempt.
Emphasizing that Türkiye follows a holistic strategy covering the fields of security, education, development, culture, human resources, religious services and science in the Balkans, Sannav said, “Trakya University also carries out science diplomacy with its academic and scientific collaborations with Balkan universities.” he said.
The program was organized by Assoc. Prof. Director of Ataturk’s Principles and Revolution History Research and Application Center. Dr. It ended with Tarık Sarıoğlu’s conference titled “From Coups to Democratic Resistance: The Historical Course of Military Interventions in Türkiye and the July 15 Break”.
Vice rectors and senate members attended the meeting.
