Five people were injured, while a 70-year-old woman is in a critical condition and is intubated, after three coordinated attacks with “Gazakia”-type homemade bombs that occurred in the early hours of Wednesday morning in Thessaloniki. The attacks targeted the homes of three officials of the Greek New Democracy party.
The targets were the residences of the chairman of the New Democracy Steering Committee in Thessaloniki, Zisis Ioakimovic, former MP Savvas Anastasiadis and politician Aphrodite Nestora. According to information, the perpetrators of the attacks were riding motorcycles.
The most serious attack occurred at 04:35 in the Harilaou area, where an improvised explosive device caused a fire that spread to two vehicles and two motorcycles. One of the cars belonged to Aphrodite Nestora.
Five people were injured in this incident. Nestora’s 70-year-old mother suffered severe burns all over her body and is being treated intubated in the Intensive Care Unit of the “Hippocrates” Hospital. Nestora herself received light burns on her limbs, while her father and two other residents of the building were sent to the hospital with breathing problems as a result of the smoke. The fire also caused extensive damage to two vehicles and minor damage to two motorcycles.

The second attack happened at 04:23 in the Toumba area. Unknown persons placed an improvised explosive device at the entrance of the palace where former MP Savvas Anastasiadis lives. The explosion broke the glass of the entrance and caused damage to the facade, but there were no injuries.
The first attack was recorded at 04:18 in the Pylaia area. The perpetrators planted and activated an improvised explosive device near a building belonging to Zisis Ioakimovic, who had previously lived in that property. No material damage was reported from this explosion.

The Anti-Terrorism Unit in Greece has taken over the investigation of the case and is examining whether the three attacks, carried out in less than 20 minutes, were part of an organized action with a common plan.
